Pollution

Pollution is not just something caused by cars and factories. It might be as simple as lunch wrappers and bottles dropped in your school playground but do you know what happens to this rubbish if it isn't put in the bin?
Rubbish gets washed away into gutters by the rain but at the end of those gutters and drains are your local waterways: creeks and rivers and many of these are connected to the ocean.

What can we do?

Plastics that get into our waterways last for a very long time! Apart from looking horrible, plastic bottles clutter up sites that water birds would use for nesting.
Instead of buying lots of plastic bottles, re-use the same one, refilling it with water from your tap. When the bottle is too old or broken, make sure it goes in the bin.
Check the label first! Many kinds of plastic can be recycled.
